What do I need to know before I can use CoreDogs?

To follow the lessons, you need to know how to use:

  • Your computer’s operating system
  • Your Web browser.

Operating system

You need to know:

  • How directories (folders) work.
  • How to create, delete, rename, and move directories and subdirectories.
  • How to copy and move files between directories. How to rename and delete files.
  • How to extract (e.g., unzip) files from archives.
  • How to run programs.


You need to know:

  • How to enter URLs.
  • How to use bookmarks.
  • How to open multiple tabs.
  • How to save images from your browser.
  • How to install adds-ons or plug-ins.

Firefox is CoreDog’s official browser.

What if I don’t know these things?

CoreDogs lessons will be too hard if you don’t know these basics. You need to learn them.

Your best bet is to take a short, in-person, hands-on class in your local area. Check out community colleges, school districts, and computer stores. Ask your friends.

The quality of computer courses …, well, they vary. Some are great, some are really, really bad. You might have to try a couple of times before you find something that works for you.

One more piece of advice: find someone else (or two or three someone elses) who want to learn as well. Learn together. This can make all the difference.
